PLANNED GIVING
Strategies for effective giving
Every year more than 2,000 donors support
the arts in our community with a contribution to the United Arts Council’s
annual campaign, the United Arts Fund. Last year gifts totaling more
than $1.2 million were received to support community arts advocacy and
the operations of 15 local arts organizations.
Additionally, more than
60 artists and arts organizations received project grant support from
programs funded by private and public partnerships administered by the
United Arts Council (UAC). Your support goes far in helping us champion
the arts for everyone in our community. Thank you!
Most contributions
we receive come as an outright cash gift by personal check. While certainly
this is a convenient and effective method of giving, there are several
other easy ways to give on an annual basis or a deferred, longer-term
basis.
Stocks or mutual funds
By gifting stocks or mutual funds directly
to the UAC, you pay no capital gains tax on appreciated securities and
you take a charitable deduction for the market value of the shares. Or
you can take a capital loss yourself by selling your securities that
are worth less now than when you purchased them. Take a capital loss
on your tax return and then contribute the proceeds to charity.
Life
insurance or retirement plans
You may choose to name the UAC as the beneficiary
of a life insurance policy on most types of retirement plans. Typically
all it takes is a phone call to your life insurance company or retirement
plan administrator to request a change of beneficiary form.
Charitable
gift annuity
This plan makes fixed annual payments of principal and interest
for life to whomever the giver names (self and/or another). The gift
to the charitable institution at death is what makes charitable gift
annuities different from commercial annuities.
Bequests
Have you included
the United Arts Council of Greensboro in your will? Updating your will
or including a codicil is not a difficult process, and you can add provisions
for charitable gifts while you make any other necessary changes. Furthering
the arts while realizing the joys of giving at substantial tax savings.
