ARTS IN HEALTH & WELL-BEING

The arts help us reach beyond ourselves, reminding us of beauty, sadness, strength, truth and possibilities. The arts are the soul of a community, helping us express ourselves and creating a sense of place. The UAC partners with groups like the Moses Cone Health System, Hospice and Pallative Care of Greensboro, and the NC Arts for Health to promote the importance of arts in health and well-being.

Grace Curtis

Since moving into Well Spring, Grace Curtis has found her creative side. She began taking painting and floral arrangement classes soon after her arrival three years ago. “I find the classes very pleasurable. I love them

and I look forward to them,” she says.

Many of her paintings reflect images of nature, a love established during summers in Maine. After graduating from Columbia University School of Library Sciences, Curtis spent 30 years as a librarian at the Masonic Library in New York City. She and her cat, Peaches, moved to North Carolina to be close to her niece, Mary Bolstad, and her husband. Curtis and more than a dozen Well Spring artists have work on display, bringing joy to residents, employees and visitors.
